Plans for 10.10

with 6 comments

Hello guys. I’m still on 10.04 where brightness works fine (except dual monitor setup). I see you say that in 10.10 they are broke keys again. I’ve not tried it yet just added in plans. Keep watching.

  1. Thanks for picking up on this. Also for me when I close lid or suspend, resuming goes back to boot! I’ve got VGN-FW41E running 10.10 latest updates. I’ve installed ati graphics from package but no help, thats solved for me last time. ACPI listen output gives both events, just nothing seems to be picking them up.

  2. I gave up on trying to do distribution upgrade. Last time I did it (9.10 -> 10.04), a massive mess up happened, preventing my machine from start Linux. I spent a whole week to be able to log in again and, of course, I was very upset with all this. Now I use a separate partition for /home and the next distribution available will be installed from scratch. I don’t care.

About Brightness key, it still doesn’t work in my Vaio (VGN series), but I can adjust brightness with the “Brightness Applet”, with the particularity that I can’t adjust it using the mouse, the applet goes crazy and disappears. I have to click it once, to show the scroll bar, and adjust it using keyboard arrows. It’s weird but it works.

    • Sad. My updgrade to 10.04 was fine. Though I’m using separate home folder on another partition which symliked in root partition.

    • I’ve had my /home on a separate partition since 9.04, which I think was the time when I had the fewest problems with a distro. I know its fairly poor place to ask – but are any of the other distros worth a look? The same problems in Ubuntu are really tiresome as they are fixed then reoccur.

  4. This is VGN-FW41ZJ/Ubuntu 10.10 with similar case as Marcio Tavares has. Brightness buttons are no joy but applet can control backlight. All media keys here works.
